Good Used Sports Cars For Around $5000?
Hi all! So I am currently on the market for a new car, but not any old car, I want it to be exciting, good looking, a real head turner. I really like Mitsubishi 3000gt's but I wouldn't really want it unless it is a VR-4 and it seems fairly reliable, for a sports car, and it is also pretty practical for where i live (Connecticut) so i have to deal with bad weather in the winter. It just seems that they are just out of my limit, for a good vr-4 that runs strong and I will be able to use is conveniently priced at 6 and 7 thousand. Just my luck! But i'm still keeping an eye out. But since i've had no luck with that car I've moved on to a somewhat less practical, rear wheel drive Mazda RX-8, i've heard mixed reviews about them you either love it or hate it but i was willing to give it a shot if the price was right, plus some come with the features of a newer car, (More airbags, sat nav, heated seats) Things i could live without but i would like to have. But anyway, I've come for help, I want to know what kind of car I can buy with 5 grand, but let me know what is available if i spend that extra 1-2 thousand also, maybe i'll save up. But i don't want anything that everyone has, or has a reputation of being riced out, i.e. Mitsubishi Eclipse, civics, preludes, Acura RSX, nothing ricey, i hate big spoilers and flashy body kits I need to be able to take it to a business meeting and look respectable but i want to have a ton of fun on the way there. I'm also into tuning, (NOT RICING) so anything with a fair market of aftermarket parts would be nice too. And no stupid muscle cars like stupid camaro's and mustangs from the 90's they look bad and handle like a muscle car. I love turbo's and superchargers so anything with that would be worth a look. But I also live in a fairly upscale place where every car is some stupid german made car, i.e. on the trip to the super market you see 20 BMW x5's, 50 3 series a million audi's, its ridiculous. so most of those are off my list aswell. I would be interested in nicer models of those companies though, like M3's i found one for 5 grand with 100k miles on it so you know whatever works. I know i contradicted myself a million times but just send me your suggestions.

Replacement for a VW Bora/Jetta - compact executive saloon?
My much loved 2005 Bora Hi-line has now done 270,000 miles & I am struggling to see what could replace it. Sometimes called a 'baby-mercedes' due to the build quality the old car's forward visibility is outstanding & the car 'rides high' & upright with a steep windscreen so parking & manouvering is vastly better than today's 'cab-forward' designs where the driver's field of view is degraded. Also, since 2005, British roads & motorways have deteriorated & there are more speed cushions so a bit more ground clearance & better ride cushioning are required - the bora was well-known to 'bottom-out' on speed cushions or undulating surfaces. Even today, in the winter you will often see Mk4 golfs with the plastic undertray ripped off & dangling underneath the car - its an expensive nuisance to replace them at c.£150 a time.
Finally today's 'equivalent' vw car is 60% more expensive than the 2005 bargain price I paid of £14,500. So with a current list price of c. £25,000 what else is there for that kind of cash.
The ideal spec is the bora hi-line; a 4-door saloon, a 2litre diesel engine, automatic gearbox and top quality leather seats. And due to potholes - the option of 16" tyres. And not forced to accept 17" tyres or sports lowered suspension if you want the 'top-spec' car. Because they dont make the Bora anymore there are no direct equivalent cars so I have selected a few cars that get as close as possible - but please let me know your recommendations & the reasons why - thanks
