Recent Buick Century Discussions:

where do I locate transmission serial number for 2001 Buick Century?

where do I locate transmission serial number by giving my vin #2G4ws52jx11227771 and then where would I locate it on the transmission? A mechanic is telling me it looks like my transmission was replaced but I only wanted my engine replaced. Now transmission is messed up. I want to see if I have the factory transmission or if my mechanic pulled a fast one on me.

Gradual loss of power to my car...?

Yesterday I had a new battery and alternator installed in my car (a 1996 Buick Century). Today, as I was driving it for the first time, the battery light came on and it began having a gradual loss of power until it just came to a stop and died on the side of the road (the same thing that happened that convinced us it needed an alternator). Does anyone have ANY clue as to what the heck it could be?

How do I know what size steering wheel cover to buy for my car?

I bought one but it was too small. How do I know what size to buy for my car? I have a 2004 Buick Century. I know I can measure... but there aren't measurements on the steering wheel cover. It didn't say 10 in. diameter or anything and I'm not going to go through a store with a measuring tool like a freak. Aren't there product serial codes or something?

When you lose a car key (kind with chip in it), how do they reprogram it?

My purse was stolen (with car key in it). I have a buick century 2003. Now I have to get a whole new replacement key and have it reprogrammed. Someone told me not only will i have to pay a big fee to get another reprogrammed key, but I'll have to shell out money to have it towed to the place so they can read codes off of my car? Is this true? Anyone else had an experience of losing their car key?

Blinkers in car dash wont work but work on outside, do I have a short?

I drive a 1986 Buick century custom wagon its a great car for me since I'm in college and it keeps costs low. Lately I've noticed that the turn signals work on the outside of the car but do not work on the inside and will sometime both work on the inside, sometimes one sometimes none at all. They work on the outside so techniquely there's no danger i guess but I was wondering if that's from a short because at the same time the radio will sometimes only work on one side. I'm wondering if this is a short or something and how much it would cost to fix or should I take it to a maniacal shop? Added points if someone can point me to a place online where I can buy a tail light passenger lens I broke the bottom one sliding in ice. Advance/auto zone couldn't find one for me.

Scratched windshield..replace or repair ?

My boyfriends sister drove my car through a fence..and now my windshield has scratches all the way down it. Can it be repaired or does it need a whole new one? The piece of fence went over the car..there are scratches over the whole car :/ I'm wanting a quote..any websites that give quotes online..or anything.. Oh and it is a 2002 century buick

How long would it take to replace all the brake lines in a Buick Century 2002?

I had a front left wheel bearing replaced today, when I picked up the car the mechanic informed me that I needed brake lines replaced. He didn't tell me which ones, only that they were probably about 70-80% rusted and extremely dangerous to drive on. I asked for a rough estimate of the work and he told me around $700. When I pressed for more information about the problem he said there were multiple rust spots, (12), and that it needed to be taken care of immediately. I'm assuming I have to have 2 lines replaced but not sure $700 is a fair price when he says he only charges $40/hr for labor. I was wrong about the price, he quoted $700 to replace the brake lines and fuel lines (everything is rusted). He offered to lift the car up and show me the state of the lines. After doing some research I've discovered this is a pretty common problem with buick's made between 1999-2003, something about the type of metal and the rust belt causes the lines to rust and potentially for the fuel and/or brake lines to burst when being used. The NHTSA started investigating the issue in 2010, but haven't done anything more then strongly recommending that buick owners get their brake lines inspected (which I just learned in 2012). So, to replace three fuel lines and the two brake lines is $700 a fair price?

how long can i drive with a bad harmonic balancer?

I have a 1993 Buick Century 3.3l with 140,000 miles on it. started getting a loud noise was told by a shop its the harmonic balancer and that this is somewhat common on these motors. don't want or have alot of money to put into car. need it to last another 6-12 months. was told it would be roughly $200.00 to fix for a new one installed. also was told i could get a used one? anyways i was also told that if i could stand the noise that i could drive it like this indefinitely and it wouldn't cause more problems. any helpful advice or input would be appreciated. thank you

Intake Manifold Gasket 96 Buick?

I have owned a number of late 90s GM V6 vehicles and I am aware that the 3.1 engine is notorious for bad intake manifold gaskets. Anyway, this morning, on my way to work my car decided to spit out all of the antifreeze. Most of it was sitting on top of and around the edges of the engine. I am leaning towards it NOT being the gasket problem because of how suddenly it happened. I have had it happen in 2 other cars and it was a gradual issue both times. My anti-freeze was fine yesterday. Any insight as to what might have happened? Hose with a hole in it? Water pump? The car is a 1996 Buick Century 3.1 V6 with about 105k. Worked fine yesterday, not so much today. Problem started after only about 3 miles. It was not extremely cold. I should have said this originally, but... I bought the car in about september, so I have only had it a few months. When I bought it, the very first day I noticed the temp gauge was not going above the first notch. It has 6 notches, 3 being halfway and 6 being the red. I assumed it just didn't work. But today, when the anti-freeze dumped out it did go up, rather quickly. I threw the heat on to avoid overheating, but the nice part was that I know it DOES work :) Anyway, the point is. I know that thermostats are made differently for different cars. Because normally the temp gauge only goes to that first notch (normally sits at about half in every vehicle I have EVER driven.) Is it possible someone put one on that does not allow it to get warm enough??? And if so, could that have anything to do with it???

my 1995 buick century is running very rough and is very hard to brake what is the problem?
