Why does my car rpm rev up?

My daughter has a 98 Buick Regal. While driving the rpm picked up as if someone were pressing on the gas pedal. I had to use the brake to slow the car down, but I was able drive around without my foot even touching on the gas. The rpm gauge stayed at 2 and above. When I placed the car in neutral and park the engine revved up so high as if I were pressing the gas pedal, but didn't idle down at all. Also her check engine light was on. Mechanic had car 2 day and was stumped. He made other repairs, but he still could not find out why engine was revving.

Heater doesnt work but defrost does?

I checked the fuses an there fine where should I start the search its a 1990 Buick rivera I don't see why the defrost for the front an back window work but no other heat or AC work How do I fix it

EMERGENCY!!! Car wont start!!?

its a 1990 buick electra. Its cold outside!! I have been having problems lately with it starting but a jump has always got it going! I havnt drivin my car all day and went to start it at 10pm and all it does is a single click or nothing at all! After a couple tries the lights went dim and horrible whomp whomp sound comes from my speakers. So i thought it was my battery i tried to jump start it and when it is hooked up to the other car the lights go back to normal and the whomp whomp noise stops but when i try to start it nothing happens when we took the jumper cables off the lights go back to being dim. The alternator is new so it shouldnt be that but ya never know!! Hopeing its the battery! Someone please help!! Ps. Not exactly sure if it makes a click, if it does i can barley hear it!
