Illegal Alien arrested after wrong-way, high-speed chase with 6 unbuckled children?

A wrong-way driver with six unbelted children in her SUV was arrested Sunday after police said she led them on a high-speed chase on Highway 12. During the chase, the driver ran about 20 cars off the road and narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a semi, police said. Washington State Patrol officers, with assistance from the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Beatriz Lopez, 35, near A Street in Pasco after a chase in the wrong lane of Highway 12. According to a report filed by Deputy Richard Schram, Lopez ran roughly 20 cars, including Schram’s patrol car, off the road during the chase. Schram clocked Lopez’s 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe at 95 mph during the chase, the report said. Washington State Patrol Trooper Dan Mann said police received a report just after 2 p.m. Sunday that a woman had intentionally backed into another vehicle and then fled. Schram responded to a call for assistance, and was eastbound on Highway 12 when he spotted Lopez’s vehicle traveling toward him, followed by a WSP patrol car. Schram reported he attempted to elude the oncoming SUV, which appeared to mirror his vehicle’s movements. Lopez performed several U-turns during the course of the chase and narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer, according to Schram’s report. A WSP trooper performed a maneuver that stopped Lopez’s vehicle long enough for officers to surround it. Schram reported he pulled the woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, from her vehicle after she grabbed a Bible from her dash, then bit it and refused to release it. Police found six children from 9 months to 7 years old in the vehicle, according to Schram. None was wearing restraints, he reported. Lopez was arrested on investigation of first-degree assault, six counts of reckless endangerment and eluding police officers, and was lodged in the Franklin County jail.
