Gearing ratios of automobiles?
Could somebody explain to me why some models/makes of vehicles have a higher or lower difference than other vehicles? To give you an example of what I'm talking about, I used to have a 5 speed ford escort ZX2 that ran at a higher RPM. It would run at around 26 thousand RPM at 50MPH. My father has a 5 speed dodge stratus that would run at higher speed in lower RPM. For his car, you can travel at 50mph and run below 2 thousand RPM. I recently bought a 6 speed VW jetta GLI that runs at the same RPM as my escort did if you don't count the extra gear. Why are some cars built to run at much higher RPM than others?
Yes it the escort and jetta run pretty high. I never much thought about it until I noticed that there were a lot of other vehicles that run at much lower RPM's. I'm also wondering if the fact that some cars run with a faster engine speed would age the engine quicker

My car clicks, and I have to try turning it over multiple times before it will finally start.?
Also, from time to time it will blow out the ignition switch fuse. I have replaced the ignition cylinder and put a new battery in. It started up fine last night after the new nattery, but this morning the same thing happened. I had to turn it over a dozen times and got nothing but clicks. Then all of a sudden it started. Is the starter bad or is it possible that their is bad wiring in the ignition switch line? I drive a 99 dodge stratus.

Sometimes when i drive off it will leave a cloud of white smoke behind me as I drive off. The smoke may have a blue tint to it...can't really tell. Wire Spinning Noise on a 03 Stratus...?
What exactly is a Speedometer cable? I am looking at a 03 Dodge Stratus, and the current owner says that everything runs great, but there is a noise to the car. It has a wire spinning sound. She says she has had the car at the shop and they just sent her home saying it was the Speedometer cable. I am just curious what exactly it is and what it means for me as someone who is thinkin about buying this car. Any help would be appreciated.. Thank You!
