Recent Ford Model T Discussions:

Where do I start when buying a car?

Okay. I am not sure about anything yet, all I know is that I want a small(er) car, like a Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Chevy Aveo, etc. I definitely can't afford a brand new one, so I know I need to look at older models, but I want to try and get one after 2000. And I only have a part-time, minimum wage job right now, I'm only 20. Going to college to get an Associates degree. This summer, I am going to sign on with an employment agency around where I live, that my brother is with. He now has a good job, from 7-5 week days, and insurance, all that stuff. So he recommended it to me. I don't have many expenses, only my cell phone, car insurance, gym, and school, (which is about 600 a semester). I know that I have little to no credit, but it's not bad credit. So, that's my situation. I need a new car because my fiancé and I are planning on starting our lives together and we need more than one car, and we need reliable ones. My car now is in good shape, but it has problems here and there, and it's the type that you probably shouldn't take on a far away vacation.  So I just don't even know where to start! I guess what I need advice on, if possible, is if anyone has past experience with loans, interest rates, payments, and cars. And if anyone can give me a website that has a "top15" or top10" most reliable, quality (affordable) cars. And/or a website with help on getting to know everything there is to know about loans and interest rates, etc. I'm sorry for the long description, and I'm sorry if this is confusing. I just don't know what else to do. I tried looking these things up on google and did not get clear results. Thank you so much!!!

An affordable car to purchase with cheapest insurance for a 17 y/o?

Hey, I'm 17 and looking to purchase my first car. Of course, insurance is a big issue for me. I was wondering what car would be a good buy where insurance wouldstill be cheap? I'm looking at spending around £500 for a second hand car, so all these new electric economic cars which cost thousands that google keep bringing up are too miuch for me. I heard about ford KA's, Nissan Micra's, Renault Clio's and Vauxhall Corsa's being good, however, when I look on insurance websites there's about 50 versions of each car with different engines, doors, years etc, and I don't have the slightest clue which version of the car would be the cheapest, other than having a smaller engine. I was wondering if anybody could provide me with the make and models of the cars which are the cheapest to insure, but are still well priced and can be picked up easily second hand. Thanks Maybe I should add that I am from Uk..

Gearing ratios of automobiles?

Could somebody explain to me why some models/makes of vehicles have a higher or lower difference than other vehicles? To give you an example of what I'm talking about, I used to have a 5 speed ford escort ZX2 that ran at a higher RPM. It would run at around 26 thousand RPM at 50MPH. My father has a 5 speed dodge stratus that would run at higher speed in lower RPM. For his car, you can travel at 50mph and run below 2 thousand RPM. I recently bought a 6 speed VW jetta GLI that runs at the same RPM as my escort did if you don't count the extra gear. Why are some cars built to run at much higher RPM than others? Yes it the escort and jetta run pretty high. I never much thought about it until I noticed that there were a lot of other vehicles that run at much lower RPM's. I'm also wondering if the fact that some cars run with a faster engine speed would age the engine quicker

Which of these two cars should I purchase? Second generation Ford Explorer or 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

I'm in the market to get a used car. Just to give some background info, I'm basing my decision on several factors: 1. Interior space and comfort, 2. Reliability and ease of replacing parts on my own, 3. Engine Power 4. off road capability (limited use ie once in a while), 5. Quality of engineering and basically how rugged the body, suspension, and 4wd system are made. These two trucks I like because they offer a good combination of all the stuff I'm looking for, I want a large SUV thats not too huge, rides high and I can pack all my stuff into for outdoor excursions, moving junk and carrying the equipment I use for my small business. What I want to know from the experts is, which of these trucks will be more reliable and in your opinion be better for me, after reviewing my criteria. I already know that the Explorers don't have the greatest V6's, either a really underpowered OHV one or a SOHC with more power but a horrible design with the three hard to reach timing chains that need to be replaced. The 5.0L V8 is nice, but horrible design flaw is that there is full time 4wd on V8 models, so gas mileage is going to horrendous and steering and acceleration won't be as good. I like the Trailblazer's inline 6, but it seems like overall the truck is not as rugged as the Explorer. What are your thoughts? Thanks

2011 f150 ecoboost exhaust?

I Have a black 2011 ford f150 3.5L its completely loaded up with everything offered from the dealer. However. The ecoboost exhaust sounds like a leaf blower. I want to get a deeper tone out of it. I know there are many different places that do exhaust, but I don't know where to start. I want it to sound more like the raptor. Not insanely loud. Just a deeper more manly tone. where should I start? What exhaust systems would work and sound the best for what im looking for? Ideas... Also. After getting the fx2 in 2011, I saw the 2012 come out this year and I love the red in the model badge. The FX appearance package is great. How could I get that done to my 2011 fx2? Could they also add some of that red interior stitching?? Ive also been wanting my pedals to look like the Harley davidson's edition. Where can I get those pedal covers? I also would like to look into getting some lighted stainless steel door sills. I just don't know where to begin looking for all this cool stuff. I'm more into the appearance then the performance. I would like to add a few HP though. Tuning chip?? Maybe some stitching in the headrest (say something like "FX". Or "sport". I don't know. Something cool like that. I have put in an interior lighting kit. And it looks great. Real easy install. So my list of things I want to do is as follows... Exhaust, Exterior appearance (colored model badge like the 2012, also maybe a stripe like the 2012), Lighted door sills, Red interior stitching, Harley Davidson pedal covers, Headrest stitching, Tuning Chip Thanks so much. I don't know where to start.

Best used cargo van to meet these requirements?

Hi, I am looking to buy a used cargo van, but am not all that knowledgeable about them so I am turning to the experts! Firstly, is there an easy way to check which makes/models of cargo vans have good / bad reputations? I'd rather not buy one that will be having loads of problems of course. My needs are mostly to be able to work from the van. I know they are made in various hauling capacity sizes, for example, Ford E-150, E-250, E-350, etc., with the 350 being able to hold the most weight. I don't need to haul any heavy weight, a 150-esque van class should be fine, but I am planning to set up a mobile office inside-- Desk, chair, power inverter, shelving, rear a/c, overhead lights w/ paneling, etc. Also, gas efficiency is of the utmost importance. Btw, is diesel a better option and do you really get that much more mileage out of it to justify the elevated cost? My budget is about $15000. I am guessing between the 2006 - 2010 range American made vans- Ford, Chevy, GMC, etc. Also, I would like one without windows in the rear if possible for cooling and safety reasons. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Which car should I buy?

I'm looking at some cars that I might want to get when I have my license. I don't really know cars but I've looked at a few possible options. These are features that I'm looking for: Stylish car, is comfortable for the drivers and passengers, fuel efficient, safe & secure, and it MUST have 4 seats, I don't like 2 seaters and don't care about speed. I live in South Africa so I'm not sure if the pricing will be the same but I'm looking for a car with a price below R300'000 / $40'000 / €30'000 / £24'000. Even if its above those prices, I would still like to hear your suggestions. Here is what I kinda found so far: 1) Ford Focus 2) Toyota Prius 3) Mitsubishi Lancer 4) Audi A3 Sportback 5) Volkswagen Golf (2011 or 2012 Model) 6) Volkswagen Scirocco

Best cars/ SUV for dog owners?

Hey all, I'm looking for a vehicle that can handle 2 dogs plus baby and mom and dad. I currently have a Chrysler Pacifica but I'm getting horrible mpg (15 ish). I'm looking for something that can last through babies, both two and four legged, get the best mpg I can find. AND is moderately priced. I have seen the element but it lacks seating for a family. I'm hoping I'm overlooking some small/mid sized suv that gets combined at least 25 mpg but hoping for about 30mpg. I haven't found this yet. Currently I'm looking at Ford escape- good overall size and mpg but nothing that really sets it apart, also surprisingly more expensive than most Mazda tribute- same as escape slightly cheaper Mariner- same as tribute Toyota highlander -strong candidate do to opt 3rd row seating Subaru forester- expensive used, moderate new. Smaller cargo space unless getting newer model Jeep patriot - might be my fav so far, okay mpg good new price good size Also I'm not really interested in hybrids as the cost and process of creating the batteries doesn't justify the fuel savings to me, maybe it's better now. Open to suggestions though, maybe I'm wrong. Thanks everyone.
