Reliable Commuter Car for Under $10k?
Hello,
So I recently got offered my first job out of college (horray) and am very excited. The problem is, this position is about 70 miles away by highway in Southern California (ouch). I currently drive a Nissan Frontier which will give me at best 23 mpg on all highway driving and at $100+ a week in gas, my wallet really takes a hit. As such, I'd like to look into perhaps getting an affordable but reliable commuter car to get started off until I get paid more or move closer.
Of course, reliability is a priority as it would be very bad to be making these long commutes just to have it break down on me over and over again.
1. Right now I'm looking at the previous generation Ford Focus and the Chevy Cobalt (I prefer domestics and they are more affordable). What is your opinion on either of these? Rather, which of these would you choose if you had to choose one?
2. If you could recommend another commuter car that is reliable, which would it be?
Thank you ahead of time.
Nissan Frontier vs Toyota Tacoma?
i live in the mountains and im driving a 87 dodge caravan se 3.0L V6 but i gotta admit it runs great it has a few little issues like the right turn signal doesnt blink and the back gate lock is broken so the gate open sensor lights up but it has a fairly new engine from a 92' dodge caravan it gets pretty good gas mileage like 20-25 but i need a truck something i can go up in the mountains in and theres a 97 nissan frontier for 4995 but idk anything about nissans. my second choice would be a Toyota Tacoma i just need to find one i can afford. both trucks are exactly what im looking for. which is:
4 Cylinder
4 WD
Manual 5 speed transmission
the nissaan has 170K miles on it which i think is a little much plus i dont even know how it runs and this car dealership has had issues with thier cars breaking down or just having problems. but the main goal im trying to get here is a TRUCK that is 4 cylinder (good on gas) 4 WD (for playtime) and manual transmission (i learned how to drive a clutch) what advice do you have for me please be honest

tires are 7 years old..change?
The tires on my Nissan Frontier truck are 7 years old and have about 36,000 miles on them. The tread is still good and no aging cracks I can see on the outside. I do mostly in town driving @ 12 mi. per day. I believe in being pro-active but with the cost of tires I need to get as much safely out of them as I can.
Thanks
is a nissan frontier a good truck?
i see a nice 2007 Frontier with 70,000 miles on it. Its a king cab and has 2 seats in the back. Im wondering is i a reliable truck, can it haul a lot like firewood, mulch, and furniture (its a 4x46cyl), are the seats in the back safe, is it good in the snow?
