Recent Pontiac Discussions:

I got scammed. What should I do?

So I'll try to keep this short... A friend of mine introduced me to someone he referred to as his "Cousin." This person seemed to be my friend's biological cousin so I trusted them. This "cousin" referred to himself as Malik Jones from Philadelphia. He mentioned that he buys and sells cars for a profit, and would love to get me started making money. The fact that he drove a range rover also added to his legitimacy. He simply asked me for $4-5,000 in cash after talking about becoming business partners for about 2 weeks. I was very leery but I made a hasty decision in letting him hold $2,000 cash of my money to buy a used car. The next day, he claims to have gone to an auto auction in DC and bought an 06 Pontiac Grand Am GT, a car he claimed sells for $8k (which it does not). He also claims he bought it for $5k at auction and wants another $3k CASH to bridge the gap, with which he said he will go get the title for at a later date because of the way DC auto auctions release the title. He also deals only with cash and asked for the remaining 3 thousand before he'd be able to get the title at a later date. I dont feel comfortable giving him more money on top of the initial 2 thousand and I dont wanna lose any more. However, I'm a student and in college and can't afford to lose 2 thousand dollars. I just want my money back out of this crazy ordeal. I have no proof beside text messages and a floated title to a 2001 impala as collateral(only because I insisted on some sort of collateral). When I ask for my money back, he gets very irate and states that he wont come by my house unless I have the rest of the money. At this point I'm about to chalk this up as a loss... but I'd like to get my money back or at least get this impala I have the title to. What should I do? My friends told me to ask the police but this guy knows where I live and might get violent and retaliate. First legitimate response gets it! Thanks a ton. I forgot to mention that I DO NOT know the actual location of the impala nor do I have the key. I would have to register it and report it stolen which would require about $400 MORE dollars with no guarantee that I'd get the impala as it may have been sold as for parts by now...

Pontiac Grand Prix glazed brake pads?

Hello all, This is probably a stupid question to ask but I am concerned with what causes the glazing of brake pads, and how to properly use my brakes. My vehicle is a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.8 V6. Today I changed my front brake pads, they were squeaking and my brake pedal was spongy at times. I figured it was time the pads be replaced. Changed pads, and during, I noticed that the pads weren't even worn much although they still squeaked when I had them on. When braking at low speeds (15-20mph) I hear a pulsating chip and very loud squeak as I apply the brakes. Since the car (as most others) have ABS, what is the proper way to slow down while braking to prevent glazing of the pads? I know that GM rotors are cheap and thin...but to save the life of my brake pads, and to prevent the need to sand them to remove glazing, what IS the proper way to brake/slow down my car? When I brake, I am guilty of using light braking then gradually applying more pressure on the pedal (especially on interestate and highway, etc.) to slow my car down. If I jam the brakes at the last minute to make a turn my car handles turns poorly and due to this I am unsure of how to properly use my brakes on the Grand Prix. I am 18 and have been driving for a couple years, please don't give me crap for being a female driver LOL! This is probably a waste of character space but any advice or info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Why are the power door locks not working on my Pontiac Grand Am after replacing the key lock cylinder?

I replaced the key lock cylinder on my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE. I performed the re-learn process by cranking the engine over, then releasing to the ON position for about 9 minutes. During the 9 minutes the SECURITY light blinked the whole time, then at the end it went solid for a few seconds, then off. On the next cranking cycle I was able to start the engine and thought all was good. But now when I open the door the car beeps as if the key is left in the ignition and the automatic locks are disabled with the door opened. I used to be able to automatically lock the doors with the door open, with no annoying beeping sounds. What is the problem? The part I replaced was the ignition key lock cylinder, ACDelco P/N D1493F/15822350. The re-learn procedures were provided with the instructions that came with the part from AutoPartsDirectToYou.com: 1. Turn ON ignition 2. Attempt to start engine, then release key to ON 3. Observe SECURITY telltale, after 10 minutes it will turn off 4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes (I only did one cycle because the engine started after the first time) 6. Start the engine. I can't shut my car off.?

I was driving home one day. I parked my car in front of my house and my key wouldn't shut the ignition off. It just stuck. I could rotate to the on position but not the off. Even worse I could pull the key out of the ignition while the car was still running. I'm not a genius when it comes to cars but I do alright. I just have no idea what this problem could be and before I take it into a mechanic I would like to know what causes this problem and how to fix it so my mechanic doesn't take my wallet for a ride. My car is 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. Any opinion/advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Help with getting a little better performance out of a first car? ('96 Pontiac Firebird 3.8 v6)?

I'm looking to add a little more pick-up to my first car (which as the title says is a 1996 Firebird 3.8l v6). I've already improved the intake (not cold air yet, but that is on the list after I replace my old clutch, of which I shredded the disc, with an XTR stage 2 clutch kit) and would like to know what else I can do to make the car a little faster off the start (or faster altogether, not particularly picky haha). I was thinking about turbo-ing the engine, but decided against it as the car's fairly high in mileage and I'd like to be able to keep driving it after a month is over. If someone can tell me that the turbocharger would be fairly benign, then I might reconsider. I'm just looking for some tips and advice from someone with a little more experience than myself.

What would you do to fix up a '98 Pontiac Grand Prix?

I want to trick mines out with new sounds, a paint job, new interior, rims, etc. I just don't know where to start. I would love some ideas what would you do?

Why won't my taillights light up at night?

It's a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am and on the passenger side my brake lights work but when you're off the brake pedal it doesn't light up at all when my headlights are on. I changed the bulbs and replaced the circuit board where you plug the light bulbs in and I'm still having the same problem. I got pulled over twice by the cops because of this what can I do to fix this before I end up getting a ticket?

I wan't to start modifying my car, where should I start?

I just bought my first car, and I wanna play around with it. It's an '01 white Pontiac Sunfire. I was thinking a new stereo and system, tinting windows, new rims, paintjob, etc. I'm open to any suggestions. :)
