Recent Toyota MR2 Discussions:

what is a good price for my 1985 oldsmobile firenza?

its in great condition. just could use some touchup paint. only 61k miles. gets about 25mpg. and ac needs to be charged. im also looking to buy a toyota MR2 spyder. anyone got one for sale?

Can you put the same size tires on a car that has different size wheels?

I'm looking at buying tires for a Toyota MR2 Spyder and the front measurement is 195/55/15 and the rear is 205/55/15. Can I put the same size tires on the front and rear and save time and some money instead of buying two different kinds of tires which would make the car look stupid, in my opinion. Also, could I maybe replace the rim size in that back to match the front? Or would that cost too much? The car is a 2002 if you need specifics. The only number that is different is the 195 and 205, which is only by 10. So will it really make that much of a difference?

First car for teen driver..suggestions.?

I am looking at some cars for a teen driver, in particular the Honda Fit and Toyota MR2 Spyder (latest 2005 model), so was wondering if anyone has feedback/opinions/advice regarding these? The teen is a safe driver, good student, reliable/responsible person, but obviously one cannot prevent OTHER drivers from causing problems. With this in mind- how are these cars rated in safety and reliability? If these are not good choices, could you recommend any models that are ideal safety-wise for a teen driver, and visually passable as well (while not as valuable as the child's life, it would be nice to give them a "nice" car)? Thank you!

Who is responsible for my turbo in my 1991 mr2 going out?

I purchased a 1991 mr2 turbo in Ohio less than one month ago. I scoped it out, asked if there were any leaks, got the ok from the dealer, signed and then drove away back to North Carolina, where I live. Everything was fine and then one day I started it up and it was idling crazily. I took it to the local Toyota dealership and they gave me the news that someone had sprayed "Stop Leak" in the coolant lines and clogged it from cooling the turbo and eventually leading the turbo to go. I Luckily got it there before the engine was done for. So now I am left with a nearly $5k bill and I was wondering if I can have the dealerships mechanic admit to using stop leak in it, would that hold the prior dealership liable and be abe to toss them the bill? I have read over the Ohio lemon laws and that does not cover it but would like to know if that they knowingly sold me a damaged car could make them liable. The vehicle only has 76k miles on it, so the turbo still theoretically could have had another lifetime before this problem came about. Just some input would be amazing. I knew the consequences of purchasing a vehicle with age/turbo/condition. With this vehicle, the coolant does run to the turbo. Which car would you recommend and why?

I'm looking to buy my first car, I'm looking for something fast, while being some what fuel efficient. I'm used to driving my brother's 91 toyota 4runner, which I have grown to love. Yet, I need a new car for mysellf. I want something cool, logical, and and overall good car. Which would you recommend, the 1993 Toyota Mr2, or a 1997-99 Honda prelude? And why? (Im a n00b when it comes to cars, so don't be too harsh.)

Are these cars SUPER rare?

Silvia S15 Silvia S14 Silva S13 Skyline R32,R33,R34 Intergra Type-R Acura RSX Type-S Honda NSX EP3 Type R BC2 Civic 3000GT VR4 Honda Prelude Toyota MR2 Supra 300ZX 350Z S2000 RX-7 2001-2002 STi i love all those japanese cars but im worried they will be even more super rare in 2 years and impossible to find ? Or find in LHD? SORRY i know that is a huge list but overall view on those vehicles?

Small, inexpensive two-seater?

Just wondering if there are any decent cars along the lines of the Pontiac Fiero or Toyota MR2 - as in a small (in full car length, meaning Corvettes and the like are out) two-seater that can be gotten for under $5000 used. Don't care about trunk or driver space, don't care too much about MPG's, doesn't have to be recent (but preferably no older than 1970), doesn't have to be convertible, but I do care about overall reliability and parts availability (meaning some Alfa Romeo would probably be out of the question). I know any car 15+ years old is kinda hard to define as reliable, but as long as it runs and doesn't take too much to fix, then it's fine by me. Nothing against the Mustang, but I'm looking for something smaller and an actual two-seater, no seats in back however small. Thanks for the help Chris, completely forgot about the del Sol. As for older ones, the oldest I'd go would probably be the Fiat X1/9 and that's only if I found one in decent condition under $5000.

Is a Toyota MR2 Spyder a good car?

I've read online reviews and stuff, but I am still just blank in a few areas. How expensive will maintenance be? Also, is a 2002 MR2 Spyder with 49k miles selling for $8,900 a good deal? Please tell me anything about this car you can that might help me decide to buy it or wait for another kind. If you don't think this is a good car, please give me some similar sports car ideas that are affordable as well.

What size rear tires should I get?

I have a 1991 Toyota MR2 NA. Trying to get my car ready for inspection next month. Just got my speedo working again now i'm looking to get a new pair of rear tires this weekend. The ones on there currently are pretty bald (the exact opposite of the front tires) and I just wanted a recommendation on what size tires I should get. This is one area of my car I probably have paid the least attention to sad to say. My car came with rims and tires when I got my car 2 years ago. I haven't put too much thought into tires until now although I know this is an important asset for a smooth ride. Current set-up: 17" Enkei RS5 rims Talon TR968 tires Stock 91 NA suspension 205/40R17 Front 205/40R17 Rear I always felt like my rear tires looked smaller than my front tires even though they are the same size. Would like to get bigger tires in the rear. How does 215/40R17 sound? Please keep in mind that MR2's came with slightly bigger tires in the rear from the factory so I would like to go a little bigger (front tires have plenty of tread left on them). Thank you for looking

Different than OEM alternator -86 Toyota MR2?

Well, my alternator gave out. I removed it and went to get a replacement only to realize the one I had removed was very different than the OEM alternator assembly that belongs in the car. The engine is 4AGE, so the alternator I'm supposed to use has the B terminal on the side, a circular 3-pin connector, and is slightly smaller than the one I have now. I'm not an alternator expert, so I'll just list facts and numbers and hope someone can help me out. I've been looking for what kind it is and why it's in there for two days now. Description: old alternator has 5-groove, gold colored pulley, black plastic rear cover, B terminal is on "top" or straight out on the rear end, the color of the alternator is dark silver, with two rows with slats where you can clearly see the wiring. The voltage regulator attached is external, and has the oval PLIS set-up. The numbers printed on it are: Transpo D702 US 12V 2940 and the component is black in color. The diode is located opposite of the voltage regulator, is brown in color, and has the numbers "DR4200R 4244U520". I've spent so much time looking for information on the brand, specs, and compatible vehicles this alternator goes to. PLEASE, if anyone knows anything, let me know. Thanks in advance and 10 points to the alternator king :)))
