Critique the three shops involved in my fuse issue.?
06 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Suddenly wouldn't start while out and about. No cranking, clicking, noise etc. Lights, electronics worked.
Took to shop. They replaced my battery. Car starts just fine.
Month later, same exact thing happens, same exact symptoms
Took to shop. They replaced my starter (car has 98K mi, above average start/stop history)
Car starts just fine, BUT - as I was pulling out of the shop parking lot, my airbag warning light went on. Also, I noticed the climate control unit was not powered. Not only no performance but no indicator lights.
I turned around and gave car back to shop. They isolated the issue to what they described as a fuse or circuit breaker in a 'non serviceable compartment' - and told me they couldn't get to it and I'd need to go to the dealer.
I brought the car to the dealer, described all this fully. Their response was to shove a work order sheet in front of me for me to sign to authorize them to diagnose both issues (airbag light and climate control) at $98 each. So nearly $200 just to diagnose, completely separate from any actual repair work done.
I politely told them we'll think about it, left, and drove directly to a non-dealer Jeep specialist not even a half mile down the road.
I had my car back in 2 hours, everything fixed, $128 total.
They said my car was showing 36 error codes - all related to a "#10 fuse" in an internal junction box. They checked the ignition switch and it was fine.
I asked this shop what they thought about the other shop saying they couldn't get to it/fix it. They kinda shrugged.
Thoughts on the original shop / dealer / new shop?
I'm kicking myself that I didn't just gravitate right to the independent jeep specialist from the start.
Especially after I strayed from using ind. specs for my '02 volvo when we moved, and a similar thing happened at the dealer - took it in for an electrical problem, and got it back with a broken fan. They didn't trace that back to a fuse, they replaced my fan assembly - at 50% labor b/c I made a stink about getting a car back with new problems. Turns out on my car they failed to do a QC check.
also - could a starter problem blow that fuse? could the shop have blown it while replacing the starter?

when returning to my car i started the engine, the car started fine but the light on the gear box that indicates what gear your in wasn't working. the gear stick moves but the light does not come on and the indicator on the dashboard which tells you what gear you are in is not working i have a - (dash) instead. the car will go into reverse and will drive forward but with high revs but very little power. the gear box oil is fine and we tried to reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for 10 mins but when we reconnected it the immobiliser is now stuck on so the car is well and truly stuck. any sensible ideas for a solution would be greatly appreciated

Need help choosing a car?
Just recently sold our 1989 volvo 240 DL as the family car/winter beater, and we're looking for a new (old) car. My dad keeps bringing up getting a Toyota Prius (cant let that happen), so I need the help of you guys to help me find a car thats good on gas (not expecting anything 35+mpg or more than $5000). As the primary driver of the car, I want something that has a little bit of kick, rear wheel drive, and not something prius-related (toyota corolla). I like the look of the car though, not too flashy, but not a piece of junk.
So in summary, I need a 1. fuel efficient car 2. under $5000 3. gets more than 25mpg 4. doesnt look like a chicks car. Thanks!
2004 Volvo S60 R vs 2003 Audi A4 3.0L?
Hi there I am a university student looking to buy a sporty awd car in the $9k-$13k range. I think I have narrowed my cars down to the s60 r and the a4 3.0l. I know these are high maintenance cars but what has the lowest repair costs? And also how powerful is the 3.0l? it has 220 hp and the s60 R has 300 hp and is a great fast car. But how does the a4 compare?

How do I find the engine wiring in a 1985 Volvo 740 GLE?
I have a 1985 Volvo 740 GLE and the wiring was redone a long time ago in it. Things have shifted and whatnot with expected wear and tear. What isn't expected is while driving sometimes, the fuse to my fuel pump will pop and kill my car. Somewhere along the way the wiring is shorting out between the engine and the fuel pump. There isn't anything wrong with my fuel pump OR my engine. I need some assistance on how to check the wiring (because I know next to nothing about cars) and if necessary how to redo that wiring.

using outboard tach on I/O?
My I/O tach has burnt out and im trying to find a tach to match the set, i found an outboard tach that is 7000rpm instead on 6000rpm but im trying to figure out if it will work.
i know it is 2 cycle vs 4 cycle, if i used a 4 pole setting on the outboard tach will it match for the Volvo 305 V8

I have a 1986 Volvo GLE, that had some oil leaks in front. I took the car to the shop and the mechanic diagnosed front main seal, cam seal, timing seal and timing belt replacement I authorize the work to be done. After the completion of the job. I picked up the car after paying $350.00 for parts and labor. I drove the vehicle for 19mi and the engine ran hot and blew seals in the block crankcase. This engine is totally ruined. What recourse do I have
I noticed the transmission not shifting into overdrive. Could the timing not being set properly cause that transmission not to shift properly?
